“Tinubu Will Win Comfortably in 2027” — Sunday Dare Blasts Datti Baba-Ahmed Over Re-Election Comments
The political atmosphere in Nigeria is heating up once again as Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has launched a fiery response to recent statements made by Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
During an interview on Friday, Baba-Ahmed urged President Tinubu not to seek a second term in 2027. According to him, Nigerians would reject the current political structure in favor of what he described as “true democracy” — a bold statement that has drawn significant backlash from the presidency.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, Sunday Dare did not hold back. He described Baba-Ahmed’s remarks as “illogical,” “misguided,” and far removed from the political reality of Nigeria.
“Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed’s ‘illogical logic’ was all over the place in his recent interview with a television channel,” Dare wrote. “He peddled arguments that were flawed, devoid of reason and empty. He must have as well dropped from space, going by what he spewed out during the interview.”
Dare likened Baba-Ahmed’s analysis to unfounded predictions by self-proclaimed prophets, and didn’t spare Baba-Ahmed’s former running mate, Peter Obi, either — calling them both a “double whammy” in Nigerian politics.
“Listening to Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed spurn his postulations about the political future of Nigeria and that of the incumbent President is like listening to the new year predictions of charlatan ‘prophets’ which never come through,” he said.
Going even further, Dare dismissed Baba-Ahmed’s logic as something that wouldn’t survive scrutiny in a first-year political science classroom. He accused the Labour Party figure of lacking depth and relying on social media sentiments and political theory without engaging with the real-world complexities of governance.
“If listening to a Peter Obi interview was a punishment, listening to Baba-Ahmed, his defunct running mate, is a torment. His political logic is not fit for even a first-year political science class, and even then, they will query his postulations.”
The presidential aide also pointed out what he called Baba-Ahmed’s refusal to acknowledge Tinubu’s “substantive achievements” so far. According to Dare, Tinubu’s administration has made bold reforms that are already starting to show results — referencing recent positive signals from global institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The positive impacts of the tough choices the President Tinubu has made in the interest of the country are already being felt, and the economic indices are there to prove this.”
On the question of 2027, Dare was confident. In his words, no volume of “armchair theories” or “political conspiracies” would be enough to stop Tinubu from coasting to a second term.
“In 2027, Baba Ahmed and the other PWs (Presidential Wannabes) will need all the marines available to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who in about two years has demonstrated his capacity to govern and to re-engineer Nigeria in a way hitherto unknown.”
He wrapped up his fiery statement with a cutting final jab:
“If Datti Baba-Ahmed is smart, he will simply keep quiet and leave politics for those equipped for that complicated art.”
