Nigeria is a country rich in its diversity of uniqueness. A country blessed with over 200 tribes. Amongst these tribe are the three major ones; Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.
But I’ll talk about one tribe that seems to be jealous over its own.
The Ogoni tribe was believed to have migrated from Ghana, hence their popular language “Khana” was birthed as a reminder of their heritage.
The Ogoni land consists of six kingdoms: Babbe, Eleme, Gokana, Tai, Ken Khana, Nyo-Khana.
The first thing one would notice about the Ogoni tribe is their high spirits, a tribe of highly strung individuals.
You can see their agility in the way they drive their bikes, the way their women respond quickly to musical instruments, the way old women go to farms very early to return late in the evening, in the way children help their parents to farm, in the way they fight for what is theirs.
The Ogoni people are a very religious and cultured people, and Christianity happens to be one of their religions.
They depend heavily on agriculture, the rivers and lands that surrounds their geographical location. Unfortunately their environment has been degraded due to pollution from oil.
An Ogoni man can fight for what he believes it’s his, it could be his land, farm, river, natural resource or even family. They are that jealous.

It was this very attitude that led them to fight for their land from exploitation from the foreigners, slave traders.. it is said that no Ogoni tribes person was taken as a slave during the slave trade.
The same attitude we saw in one of their heroes, Ken Saro Wiwa who was an activist and was alleged to incite the killing of four Ogoni chiefs.
They are known for producing yams, Cassava and fishes which are their major agricultural products and they have been known for producing elites and intellectual giants like Ken Saro Wiwa, Baribor Bera, Mr Timothy Naakue Paul Birabi etc.
They are often mistaken to be hostile people. But I think that their jealousy has been misunderstood.
Finally To get to the heart of an Ogoni man, one must understand first their jealousy.
