A squandering of Essential and rare commodities? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Dean Osanyintuyi Samuel Getting a Ph.D. ideally makes you a committed generator of new knowledge, innovation or ideas. These ideas impact the world to advance civilization. It’s an investment of time, energy and resources to create advances. It takes anything between 3/4 to 10 years to complete Ph.D. work and a thesis in global research universities, which are the incubators of civilization advance.

So if someone has invested so much energy into this effort, it is a waste not to utilize the skill and competencies acquired.

You will find most PhD degree holders in academia, research institutions, highly technical government agencies and corporations or industries. This is where they transform our world, especially in Science, Engineering and biomedical fields.

The current Director General of the World Trade Organization is a woman with a PhD. The director of NASA DART project which hit an asteroid, is a woman with a PhD, as are increasing numbers of Nobel prize winners in sciences or fortune 100 company CEOs

Women with PhDs abound in academia and they use their skills. They are usually married to other men who are either also academics or are professionals in diverse fields. But they give back to society and mentor others

Any woman who becomes an olori and Co wife in a Kings harem, cannot continue a professional or academic career.

She becomes a relic of the palace and her unique training is not utilized. By the same token, a highly specialized medical doctor cannot function as a Kings olori . Both highly educated ( PhD ) or skilled people ( medical specialists) becoming a Kings Co wives , who don’t work outside the palace, are a waste of skill training, which took many years of perseverance and effort to acquire.

We must avoid the potential societal loss of the contribution of the girl child, whose trajectory may be abbreviated by this trend.

Highly educated and skilled women should get married. But only to men whose calling will permit continued productivity from her to society using her training.

Creature comfort is no doubt a potent magnet, but society must examine the cost-effectiveness before the trickle becomes a flood..

Women who have not invested so much in rare fields or training can be oloris in a harem without much societal loss. That’s my point.
