The celebrity businessman says his past relationship with former governor of Anambra state,Peter Obi affected trust within APC as he recounts how delegates abandoned him during the Imo primaries despite early support.
Popular socialite and businessman Cubana Chief Priest has spoken publicly about the reason behind his defeat during the APC primaries election in Imo State, revealing that political distrust and ethnic sentiments may have worked against him.
Speaking during a livestream session with TikTok personality Peller, the nightlife entrepreneur said:
“ President Tinubu doesn’t trust me yet because I’m Igbo and I have worked for former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obibefore.”
According to the Cubana Chiefpriest, some members of the ruling APC allegedly questioned his loyalty because of his previous connection with former Anambra governor Peter Obi. He explained that although he joined the party with confidence and enthusiasm, he later discovered that politics involves deeper structures and alliances beyond public popularity.
APC Chairman Gifted Him A Car After Defeat
Despite the painful loss, Cubana Chiefpriest expressed gratitude to the APC chairman for showing him kindness after the election.
He revealed that shortly after the primaries, the party chairman gifted him a car as encouragement and appreciation for his participation in the political process.
The celebrity businessman described the gesture as unexpected, adding that it motivated him not to lose hope in politics despite the defeat.
What Happened During The APC Primaries
Cubana Chiefpriest explained that before the primaries, many political stakeholders and supporters reportedly assured him of victory. He said consultations and meetings were held across different wards, while supporters mobilized heavily for his ambition.
According to him, the situation changed dramatically on the day of the primaries.
He disclosed that several delegates who had earlier promised him support allegedly switched sides during voting, leaving him disappointed by the final outcome.
The businessman revealed that he secured only two votes during the primaries despite the support he believed he had built ahead of the election.
The result, according to him, became a shocking political lesson, as he realized that social influence and celebrity status could not automatically guarantee political success within established party structures.
