Ned Nwoko Breaks Silence, Attributes Regina Daniels’ Outburst To Drug Abuse
Says actress receiving medical care, urges public to respect family privacy amid viral controversy
Senator Ned Nwoko has finally spoken publicly about the recent outburst of his wife, popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, which stirred widespread speculation about a crisis in their marriage.
In a detailed statement released through his media office on Thursday, the lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District attributed Regina’s erratic behavior to “substance misuse and emotional distress,” describing the episode as deeply worrying but treatable.
“It is unfortunate that the public witnessed Regina in such a disturbed state. This is not the woman I married or the mother of my children,” Nwoko stated. “What people saw was the result of emotional stress compounded by dependency on substances she was advised against using.”
The controversy began last week when Regina Daniels went live on Instagram, tearfully speaking about her “loneliness and emotional struggles” in marriage. The series of videos — which quickly went viral — sparked nationwide reactions, with fans expressing concern for her wellbeing and others suggesting that her marriage to the 63-year-old senator was under strain.
Shortly after the videos were deleted, reports emerged that the actress had been admitted for medical observation.
Senator Nwoko, in his statement, explained that Regina is currently under medical supervision and receiving professional counseling. He said he deliberately remained silent earlier to protect her privacy and allow medical experts to handle the matter.
“Regina is receiving all the necessary care and attention. We are working closely with professionals to ensure her full recovery. I ask the public to respect our family’s privacy during this time,” he said.
The senator also criticized the media for sensationalizing the issue, warning that unverified online stories could worsen the situation and harm Regina’s recovery process.
Reactions from the entertainment industry have been mixed. While some Nollywood stars have expressed sympathy and called for greater attention to mental health among young celebrities, others have accused Nwoko of attempting to control the narrative by blaming his wife’s actions on drugs.
A close family source told reporters that Regina had been “under immense personal and emotional pressure” due to the demands of family life, career, and public expectations as a politician’s wife.
“She’s young, ambitious, and constantly in the public eye. Sometimes that pressure can be too much,” the source said.
Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels have been married since 2019. Their relationship drew public attention because of their wide age gap and Nwoko’s polygamous lifestyle. Over the years, the couple maintained a picture of unity on social media, with Regina often accompanying her husband to political and charity events.
They share two children and have jointly supported various philanthropic causes, especially in Delta State.
However, in recent months, Regina’s reduced online activity and visible emotional strain had fueled rumors of tension before her public meltdown.
As of press time, Regina Daniels has not issued a personal response to her husband’s claims. Sources close to the family confirmed she is undergoing rehabilitation and family therapy.
Senator Nwoko concluded his statement by calling on Nigerians to approach the matter with empathy rather than judgment.
“This is a private family challenge, not a public spectacle. Our focus now is on healing, not blame,” he said
