Sometimes, It’s hard to accept the word ‘Journey’.
It seems too far or too long a process.

Have you ever gone on a hike?
Do you think hikes are fun?
Do you think they are more fun when the destination is known or unknown?

What is Peace?

Peace isn’t just the absence of noise or chaos but rather, It’s the ability to stay calm even in the midst of noise and chaos.

Peace is both a noun and a verb (an action word).
It’s a state of mind, a healthy state of mind.

Let’s do an exercise real quick.
You probably have to read through the exercise first before you can start.

First off, Make sure you feel settled.
Close your eyes.
Picture a big blue sea. Can you see it?
Imagine huge waves coming down on the sea.
They’re in full force accompanied by the tide.

Now, look over at the corner. There’s a long stick floating close to the edge of the water.
There’s a bird perched on it, looking over the sea.
It’s not moved, It’s probably scared but It’s Still.

That’s what Peace looks like.

You’re present in today’s fast-paced chaotic world. Everything seems to be going so fast.
Your plans aren’t working out how you wanted.
Your finances aren’t exactly stable.
Your family isn’t together right now.
Your mental health is a bit shaky because of all this.
You’re scared that you might be drowning.

Yet, you’re calm.

You’re wondering, “Is it even possible to stay calm in such a situation?”
Yes, it is.

Your calmness doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing your part in taking action to see how things can get better.
It means that while you’re at it, you also understand that you can only do as much.

Why your Peace shouldn’t be determined by your circumstances.

The idea that you can always fix things is an Illusion, in order words…It’s false.
You don’t have control over a lot of things.
Thinking that you do, comes with a lot of pressure and in turn drives away your Peace.

Peace is a continuous journey.

Your Journey of Peace.

♦️Accepting that you don’t have control over everything happening in your life is the first step you take in your journey of Peace.

♦️Surrender is Key, whether it is your definition of yourself, your plans or even your talent.
You have to surrender everything concerning you to the One who made and has the wisdom to handle it, Jesus.

It’s your second step in this Journey.

Release.

When you take this second step, you notice how lighter you feel.
The pressure to always deliver is taken off you.

Life is always changing…sometimes, too fast.
If your Peace is dependent on these things that breeze in and breeze out, then you will barely have Peace.

♦️Most of the things that happen to you or around you is as a result of decisions that have been made by you or the people around you.

Of course, you can’t get into their head and change their thinking.

That’s why your Peace has to come from within.
So whether it’s a good or bad decision, bringing forth Peace or not…Either way, you’re not shaken.

You’re at Peace just like the bird.

Why is Peace Important?

Being at Peace with yourself and the people around you is important for a healthy progressive life.

♦️Wisdom thrives in a peaceful atmosphere.
The decisions you make are more precise, clear and fulfilling.

️When you’re at Peace, your thinking isn’t fuzzy or jumbled.

You tend to be more creative, those creative juices just keep flowing nonstop.

♦️Being at peace with yourself helps you to understand yourself better. What you’re made of, who you are, what you like or dislike, habits you enjoy and so on.

You’re able to process your thoughts clearly and reflect on them.

♦️Peace is contagious.
When you carry that peaceful atmosphere around, it gradually begins to seep into the people around you and soon everyone’s at peace.

♦️A sound mind is a result of peace within.
A sound mind is a calm, clear, present, strong and creative mind.
You can’t have those if you’re constantly at war with yourself or the people around you.

How to live in Peace in today’s fast-paced world?

It’s still possible to live in Peace in today’s world where everything happens so fast.
Here are some practical ways to do so.

♦️Pay attention to your heart: Paying attention to your heart means choosing to listen to your heart.
Notice what triggers you and why they trigger you.

Don’t block out past hurt.
Sometimes, you believe that if you can block it out, then you won’t have to deal with it.
But that’s not true.

You can only become numb by sweeping your pain under the rug and that’s not true peace. Because, if you get triggered somehow, all that pain will resurface and then you realize that you were never truly at peace.

You have to deal with your past hurt and let it go.

♦️Learn Solitude: Solitude is the art of being alone but not lonely. Learn how to enjoy your space and your own company.
Sometimes, you take retreats…Go somewhere alone, do something you really enjoy doing.

Solitude is important for a healthy and peaceful mind irrespective of personality (ie introvert or extrovert).

♦️Don’t take things personally: Most times, reactions toward you aren’t because of you. It’s because of their perception of you.

Different people see you differently and react to you as such.
Don’t take those reactions to heart.
They don’t define you and they don’t have a right to tamper with your peace of mind.

♦️Sow Peace: Remember, whatever you sow, you shall reap.
Sow Peace today and every day.

Don’t be the one to start up quarrels and unnecessary arguments.
Don’t intentionally sow seeds of discord among people, It’s never worth it.
If you sow Peace, you will reap peace too, bountifully.

Romans 12 vs 17 (LVB): Don’t quarrel with anyone. Be at peace with everyone, just as much as possible.
