You’ve applied for so many jobs and now you have this beautiful job offer seating comfortable on your email list waiting for you to open it but you don’t know what to do.

Keep reading this so as to know how best to answer emails professionally.

There are four responses to a job offer via mail

1. Acceptance
2. Rejection
3. Negotiation
4. Consideration

We would look at each of them below.

1. Consideration

This is the response given to the hiring manager by the potential client or employee when there aren’t enough details on the mail or when the employee is stuck in a dilemma of choosing two job offers and he decides to use this situation to find out the company to settle for.

Most people are so valuable and lucky that when they send their applications, companies really want to keep them, they aren’t job seekers, they are job keepers.

There are different ways to become a job keeper but for the sake of context sake, we would stick to how to send a consideration mail, the mail should go like this

Hi [Recipient Name],

I was thrilled to receive the offer for the role of Backend Developer at [Company Name]. Thank you for the smooth interview process and your patience with addressing all my concerns.

I wanted to let you know that I received another job offer unexpectedly this week, and while that position appeals to me as well, working with you would be my first choice. However, the salary offered was significantly higher than this offer. And that is making my decision difficult.

Is there any room for negotiation when it comes to the salary and benefits?

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Also you can send the mail in this format as well

Dear [Recipient Name],

Thank you for sharing the details of the offer for the Product Manager position.

I hate to delay my formal response to the job offer, but I am carefully considering the terms and would need a few days before responding. Could I get back to you on the offer by the 18th?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

[Your Name]

However one must know that the standard duration for considering a job offer should be 1 week because most times these job offers are needed urgently and let’s not forget that you were the successful applicant amongst other applicants, it would be rude to keep a company waiting for more than a week.

2. Acceptance:

The next way to reply to a job offer is to accept it, this occurs when the company had already given you an interview and discussed all the necessary details and you have gone through the documents shown and you are sure that you really want to work with this company.

You can send a reply in this format

Hello [Recipient Name],

Thank you once more for sharing the offer’s details with me earlier. I’ve gone over the terms and am thrilled to join your company as a content strategist. I’m really excited about this opportunity and can’t wait to start on February 7th!

Please let me know what the next steps are and if you require any additional documentation or information from me.

Best,

[Your Name]

3. Negotiation

This part of the response comes when the terms and conditions aren’t favourable to you and you really want to work with the company, then you can negotiate the terms to come at a favourable, it could be the salary, the working hours or even the compensation package, you can reply with this format

Hello [Recipient Name],

Thanks again for sharing the details of the offer with me earlier. Working with [company name] is something that I’ve worked towards for a while, and I’m excited at the prospect of joining the team.

However, I have a few questions about the compensation package and would like to know when you would be available to talk about it.

Do let me know. Thanks for your help in advance.

Best,

[Your Name]

Lastly is the rejection response.

Yea some gifts aren’t made for us no matter how good looking they are.

Some jobs might need to be declined if you see some red flags, don’t feel at peace about the offer or you don’t like the terms and conditions and you have tried negotiating and you’re sure this isn’t your dream job, then you can send a mail in this format

Hello [Recipient Name],

Thank you once again for the job offer mail you sent to me last week. It was great to learn more about the [ position] and I was thrilled to be offered the job. However, after much thought, I’ve decided that this position isn’t the best fit for my career goals at this time.

It’s been a pleasure getting to know you, and I hope we’ll be able to collaborate again in the future. Please keep in touch!

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Hope you now know how to send a response to a job offer, don’t spoil a good thing because you weren’t knowledgeable about it
