The Super Eagles of Nigeria, has once again etched their name in the archives of the african cup of nations by beating the phenomenal Pharaohs of Egypt 1 goal to nil in the group stage.
The 2022 African Cup of Nations(AFCON) which began on the 9th of January with Cameroon as the host country of the 33rd AFCON competition. The biennial competition consists of 24 teams that scaled through the qualifiers.
Nigerians react and celebrate over the victory with reservations, given that the Super Eagles missed several chances. The Egyptian hitman and goal machine Mohammed Salah of the Liverpool F.C was not allowed any space for expression in the game, courtesy of Watford’s William Troost-Ekong. Except a mastery loop of the ball over Nigeria’s defender, Maduka Okoye, a defensive error caused by an assumption that the Egyptian was offside.
Both teams were seemingly at par until Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho whooped the ball into the Egyptians net in the 29th minute, setting the pitch ablaze. Nigerians were skeptical about the unique formation chosen by Augustine Eguavoen, which by the way is the current formation of Manchester united.
Group D promises to be a mixture of lions and under dogs, comprising Nigeria, Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan. Football is a game full of surprises where the under dogs bark to threaten and the lions roar to instill fear, AFCON won’t be an exception.Today’s win is not decisive, in fact the competition has only just begun. Each team has a maximum of 3 games at the group stage.
So far the Eagles have been awesome and defeated the Sudan team by 3 goals to 1
We hope for more victory and eventually becoming the champions
