A wave of shock, fear, disappointment and scepticism through the nation as bandits infiltrates the Nigerian Defence Academy leaving two personnel dead, and one abducted.

The Public Relation Officer of the Nigeria Defense Academy has acknowledged the attack on The Academy on Tuesday, 25th August 2021.

Bashir Muhd Jajira in his own words said,

“The security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy was compromised early this morning by unknown gunmen who gained access into the residential area within the Academy in Afaka.

During the unfortunate incident, we lost two personnel and one was abducted.

The Academy in collaboration with the one Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state has since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel”

The Nigerian Defence Academy was established in February 1964, for training seasoned officers of the armed forces which include; The army, the navy and the airforce for national security.

The Academy runs a five-year bachelor programme with a one-year military and a four-year academic course.

With an approximate number of 2,500 students and several mouths dropping calibre alumni to its account, the likes of;

• Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria and former Military Head of State.

• Sani Abacha, former military ruler of Nigeria.

• Tukur Yusuf Buratai former Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army.

• Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, former Chief of Naval Staff, Nigerian Navy. et al

This is the first security breach to be recorded since its establishment in 1964.

This discomfiting incident took place at 1:00 am WAT at the Afaka campus Kaduna State in bother Nigeria, as bandits were said to disguise themselves in military regalia sneaking their way unidentified into the Academy.

Upon their entrance, the bandits moved straight away to the officers quarters.

where they began firing sporadically leaving Lieutenant Commander Wullah and Flight Lieutenant CM Okoronwo dead.

Second Lieutenant Onah sustained a gunshot injury and is currently undergoing treatment.

Bandits made away with Major Datong.

This leaves citizens with an avalanche of suspicions and unnerving questions.

The Academy public Relation continued to say that, “The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy.

We assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued.”

Several political leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction including the Fani Kayode.

The officer on the CCTV watch allegedly slept off, contrary to the perspective statement given by the Academy Public Relations Officer.

If the national defence academy can be attacked, one can only imagine what the citizen’s safety margin is will be.

So we ask;

Who is the mole?

Is Aso rock safe?

Does a lone officer keep such a sensitive watch?

What do the bandits want?

Could this be a growing scenario, similar to the case of the Afghanistan Taliban takeover?
