Employer Branding and Brand Marketing: Two Branches of One Family Tree

What is Branding?

Branding is what people say about you, it is an identity, your distinction between you and your competitors, How your customers perceive you.

Your Brand Equity is the value stemmed from the perceived value and emotional attachment people have about you so for instance

When you go to a supermarket, and you go to the toothpaste section, the brand that you pick has the highest brand equity for you

And this differs

To position your brand strategically

You must know who you are? Self awareness

And Find your Niche and you can find it by identifying these points

  1. What are your passion and interests?

What would be that one thing that you can do or teach about even if you are not paid, is it on Christianity, Business, Food, clothes, health? What’s that one thing that you can stay up all night doing?

  1. What problems do you enjoy solving?

When you leave a place, what are you missed for? For discussing politics,

Are you known for being too emotional, you talk about relationship? You talk about Sex? (Now I mean this in a good way)

  1. What is your Unique Selling Point?

What can you do so well, (Expertise)
What have you been doing for so long (Experience)
How well can you teach that thing (Expression)
Does that catch your interest when you come across it(Excitement)

  1. Which people do you love how they do their things

Sometimes we see people who we love doing things that we would love to be or do, Seth Godin calls them “tribe leaders” so we need them to show us who we can be.

After discovering your Niche

(To be honest, this may take alot of time)

Find out those who are the big names in that NICHE, copy them (model them)

And please spend time to study that niche, get books related to that NICHE.

According to Gladwell, the 10,000 hour rule says that consistent 10,000 hours on a particular course makes you an expert, But you don’t need to be expert to make money in your niche, you just need to be a step ahead.

But there are ways to go around the 10,000 hours rule, one of them is mentorship…

When you have imitated long enough, you can innovate.

Now when you have identified your niche, and it is a profession or you’re already in your niche, Find skills related to that profession

Build Capacity by learning the necessary skills, You want to be a Copywriter, and you don’t know how to persuade with words??

You want to be a digital marketer, and you cannot use hashtags, or create contents (it’s well)

Even if you want to be a Manager, Build Soft skills (it can be learnt)

Back to Branding

You need to have Core values, or at least know your core values…

What do you want to stand for? what would you want to be known for?

Money (people should pay first before a business commences and this is not bad)

Punctuality (make sure that people get their goods and services quick)

Empathy( You want your product or Services to make people happy, sad, angry etc)

Excellence (you want your product or Services to stink of undisputed value, and quality)

And portray that core values into everything you do
