HOW TO MAKE MONEY AS AN UNDERGRADUATE

Recently alot of undergraduates have been asking how they can make money from home or while in school and I want to share the various ways money can be made

1. Internship: a student can make money through internship,
the position of a student or trainee who works in an organization, sometimes without pay, in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification.

The beauty of having an internship is that you can gain the experience that is required to get a job after school, you gain an allowance although this can be negotiated since you’re not a full employee, you also get to build relationships with that company and it would be easy to get a Job with that company because the cost of getting a new staff is more than retaining an already existing staff, you can also get a letter of recommendation from the staff while applying for scholarships and leadership programmes abroad as well.

In an internship you could negotiate the days when you would come to work, it mustn’t be everyday since you’re a student, it could be days when you’re sure there won’t be much or no lectures.

Or you could just agree for 3 days in a week, so any free day counts or hours that you would love to work for in a week that way you can come in anytime.

2. Remote Jobs: remote jobs are jobs that can be done from the comfort of our homes and in convenience.

But most remote jobs go hand in hand with digital skills like copywriting, content marketing, information marketing, graphic designing, marketing etc.

First of all you must learn a digital skill, practice and master it (this would take a while) then all you need is to find either a client, company, friend who needs that service and render it to them, sometimes you might need to pitch yourself

3. Virtual assistant: there are many people who have busy schedules, so they need an assistant, it might be a personal assistant or a virtual assistant (online)

The truth is that most times, people do not even know that they need a virtual assistant, now the virtual assistant needs to be skilled, how skilled you are would determine how much you’re worth.

Some assistants just help with emails, social media handles, calls, presentations, speeches for programmes, reminders, booking of appointments, notification of meetings, time management, knowing what duties should be prioritised and representation in meetings etc

All these and many more can be done by a virtual (personal) assistant but like I mentioned it is bent on how skillful the person is.

4. Webinars and Seminars

A student can make money by hosting seminars/webinars/ entertaining shows.

You first need to determine what people need at the moment, there are times when people are stressed, you can call a comedian and charge a gate fee for the participants.

You can also organise a programme to enable students find a career that fits them and charge a fee, other times you might make it free and allow the resource person to upsell a product to your audience and then get a percentage for the product sold or service sold because you brought the audience.

5. Affiliate marketing: I’m not here to talk about Learnoflix or expertnaire. You can be an affiliate marketer without paying a dime, yea.

To understand this, you need to understand what affiliate marketing truly means. I have a book titled “The Job seeker’s guide” the book is currently sold at ₦3500, a student can meet me and get a link to sell my book to his/her coursemates at a 50% compensation fee, which means that for every sale she or he makes, they would get ₦1750.

This doesn’t restrict the student from selling other things as well, you could sell someone’s course that you know would be useful to other students, sometimes it could be past questions, tutorials, online trainings, CV optimisation classes etc.
The percentage must not be 50%, different terms and conditions apply for different people.

6. Tutorials: as a student, you can sell knowledge on certain topics that you’re good at to other students especially freshers, most freshers need to get a good score and the best way to build a good GPA is by having tutorials, you can organise tutorials for the younger students so that they can become better acquainted with certain calculations, subject and courses, you could charge per student or you can charge per hour depending on how feasible it is for you.

7. Real estate
You can be a realtor as a student, there are different platforms that enables people to sell lands/buildings to people, but this works effectively when you know you have the audience that can pay for the land

Real estate is quite high when it comes to making pay, but you can become so good with your visibility that your fellow coursemates can recommend you to clients, family and friends.

And sometimes you don’t need to do the whole work, all you need to do is to recommend to an experienced realtor who would do all the hardwork and send your commission to you, REBA allows for this.

8. Insurance: every car driving on the road must be insured even if it’s third party insurance, imagine if you could just insure just 10 cars in a month, or renew car papers.

You can walk into an insurance company and strike a deal with an insurance agent to bring recommendations for a percentage, because truth be told, every salesman has a target to meet up with, and they need the recommendation more that you know. Even if they don’t get paid the commission for that sale.

Sales is a numbers game, the more visible your product is, the more people get to patronise.

Insurance isn’t just for cars, there are savings, health, houses, work, Life, education also get acquainted with how they work for you never can tell which one can give you the opportunity you need to make money.

9. Dropshipping: this is sometimes mistaken for affiliate marketing but they are not the same.

In dropshipping, you sell a product to a person at an agreed price, and then the company takes the responsibility of shipping that product to the person while you seat tight and get your profit.

A company known as Sonkas Trading Enterprise allows you to register for dropshipping at little fee, then you have access to their catalogue of products, then you can sell these products to your own audience and when they person makes payment to you, you can forward the details to the company who ships the desired product to the customer.

The company is happy they made a sale, you’re happy you made your profit, customer is happy they got their products.

There are also other ways to make money like mini importation, but I chose those that requires little or no capital at all

Hope you found value?
