Last week, Nigeria Police arrested members of the Pan-Yoruba Security outfit OPC, who had handed over to the Police the arrested foreigner Fulani bandit/terrorist/kidnapper Wakili Iskilu at Ibarapa in Oyo State. I have read the diverse reactions of our people on social media to this event, though the OPC members have been released (on bail).

A few days ago, I watched a video clip where Iba Gani Adams told us that he had instructed the OPC members to record the arrest of criminals and the handing over to the Nigerian Security agencies, so that there would be records and evidences of what OPC is doing and how the Security agencies handle such arrests persons handed over to them.

Wakili wasn’t the first person arrested by OPC and handed over to the Police. Last week some of Wakili’s gang members were arrested by the same OPC members and were handed over to Police.

Remember that all arrests made by the Amotekun Corps were also handed over to the Police because both Amotekun Corps and OPC don’t have the authority to prosecute or detain any criminals. Two weeks ago, I recollect reading in the news media that some members of Amotekun Corps who had arrested some Fulani bandits were arrested.

Every individual or group has the right to self defense and make arrest of troublemakers. So, legally, both the OPC and Amotekun Corps have done what’s expected of them by promptly handing over the arrested persons to the Police. But, as it turned out now, it may be the beginning of suspicion and mistrust between these vigilantes and Police (on one hand), and between the people and Police (on the other hand), and more importantly a big mistrust between the Yorubas and the FULANI FG.

If the OPC had killed Wakili and his gang in the forests, the FG may turn and accuse all OPC as involved in extrajudicial killings, which may worsen the situation.

I think it’s now on record what the FG has done, through the Nigeria Police to the OPC members, who had helped the Police do a task the police failed or couldn’t or unwilling to do.

So, the Yorubas may adopt another strategy henceforth. With all clear evidences of the FULANI FG behind all the insurgencies in our land, very soon, it’s going to be more confrontational and will involve the military, police and DSS working in conjunction with the bandits against us. The YORUBA Elders and the people/groups in charge of our security and defense should note this dangerous potential of military and police deployment/involvement against us, and make the necessary strategic backup plan.
