I’m sitting down close to a Man who is with me in a Commercial vehicle. Well He seemed like a hustler, I just saw him drop a luggage with the Bus Conductor, who was at that time tying the bus back to prevent the luggage from falling off.
As the Man sat close to me, I could perceive the stench of a Hard Day hustle, Of course I didn’t feel bad, How could I? I’ve had my own moments (Trust me)
But I was taken aback by a memory in secondary school. A classmate of mine who had a body odour, Now before you condemn, criticise or judge any body. You probably should listen to the whole Story.
Now this classmate of mine whose name was Simeon (Not his real name) was a new student who joined us that term (JSS2) and he was a very neat student, His parents were probably rich (please don’t ask me how I knew😌)
Then it Happened, Simeon went to one of the prettiest lady in class and told her that He loved her… Mehn the lady took it too personal probably because the guy wasn’t her type, or She found it offensive that Simeon had the nerve to even tell her those words.
So She did the unimaginable, She reported to her Senior brother who happened to be an SS3 Student in that same school and He did what big brothers would always do, Look for the boy to teach him a lesson.
But Simeon didn’t want to be punished, He knew the consequences, probably He didn’t know She would take his innocent confession of love too offensive, And Simeon started malingering classes, and of course the Lady’s brother came day after day to look for Simeon, Simeon stopped coming to Class, He stopped going to the hostel, He stopped associating with his fellow students, He always lived in the bush and his personal hygiene became so bad that he got a body odour…
It taught me first that we all have stories, every prostitute, every Robber, every kidnapper, every sinner, every addict, every cultist etc perhaps God knows their true story and how it should end that’s why he is patient with us all. Who would have known that Oliver’s request for more wasn’t pride but hunger.
The second lesson was how one little act could change someone’s story. Something as little as forgiveness, intolerance, impatience, criticism, encouragement etc
Looking at how the death of Jesus was done out of Love and not carelessly. How Paul and Silas chose to stay in the Prison even after the prison doors were opened just to save the household of the Jailer, How Saul’s impatience made him lose his kingdom being established, How the Criminal hailed Christ and got his ticket into Paradise.
Little things do matter.
Back to my Story, Simeon finally failed because of his unpunctuality, and lack of focus, (How could he not)
You can blame it on Simeon’s carelessness and bluntness, maybe someone might have motivated him “Go for what you want” “take the bull by the horn” or probably “There is another story to another little act of someone daring him to say it to the lady if he wasn’t a coward”
You can blame it on The lady’s senior brother who threatened to beat the living daylight out of Simeon and couldn’t wait to resolve this case amicably.
Or you can blame it on the lady who didn’t see I love you as a compliment, who wasn’t man enough to tell Simeon that she wasn’t okay with the words He was saying, Or at least smiled when he said those words.
Or You can blame my memory who never forgot the story and still think of Simeon and the outcome of his life had he remained Silent.
Meanwhile…. Today’s a day to do something little
