Actress Rita Daniels Reacts to the Election Outcome

Actress and filmmaker Rita Daniels has broken her silence after losing the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) presidential election held on 9 December 2025.

In an emotional statement released hours after the official announcement, she said she accepted the outcome with grace but expressed disappointment at the intense politics that surrounded the campaign.

“I entered this race with a sincere heart to serve. Though the results didn’t favor me, I remain committed to the unity and progress of the guild,” the actress stated.

She thanked her supporters, adding that the experience had strengthened her resolve to continue advocating for the welfare of actors across Nigeria.

What Happened During the Election

The AGN election, conducted at the national secretariat in Abuja, witnessed a large turnout of delegates from all state chapters. The contest narrowed to two major candidates: actress Rita Daniels and veteran actor Abubakar Yakubu.

According to the Electoral Committee, actor Yakubu won with 412 votes, while actress Rita Daniels secured 289 votes.

Observers said the atmosphere was generally peaceful, although tensions rose when both camps raised concerns about vote-buying allegations claims the committee dismissed as “unsubstantiated and politically motivated.”

In his acceptance speech, actor Yakubu said:

“This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every actor who believes in a united, transparent, and progressive AGN. I extend a hand of collaboration to actress Rita Daniels and every contestant.”

 

Producer Stanley Ontop Reacts

Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop shared his reaction shortly after the results were announced.

Known for his close relationship with many AGN members, he praised both candidates but voiced concerns about internal politics.

“I respect actress Rita and actor Yakubu, but the guild must stop allowing personal interests to overshadow its responsibilities,” the producer said.

He also added, “actress Rita ran a passionate campaign. I hope actor Yakubu’s victory will bring stability, not more division.”

On the other hand, Yakubu’s supporters celebrated his victory as a return to “experienced leadership.”

One fan wrote, “Yakubu has been in the system long enough. This is the stability AGN needs.”

Neutral observers noted that both candidates are influential and urged the guild to unite after the divisive campaigns.
