Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Denies Apologizing to Senate, Stands by Her Position

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has refuted claims that she apologized to the Senate over the circumstances leading to her suspension.

In a statement on Monday, Akpoti-Uduaghan dismissed the reports as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that she remains firm in her stance.

“The reports suggesting that I have apologized to the Senate and retracted my position are completely untrue. I stand firmly by my words and actions and have not issued any apology to the Senate or anyone regarding this matter,” she declared.

She condemned those behind the false claims, accusing them of distorting facts and misleading the public.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was suspended following a confrontation with the Senate leadership, reaffirmed her commitment to defending the rights of her constituents. She alleged that certain individuals were deliberately attempting to manipulate public perception with fake statements.

“I urge the public to disregard these rumors and publications as they do not represent my position. My commitment remains to truth, justice, and the people I represent,” she stated.

Expressing concern over what she described as an orchestrated attempt to silence her voice in the National Assembly, she added:

“This is not just about me; it is about the integrity of our democracy. I will not be intimidated or forced into submission through false narratives.”

She also urged Nigerians to be wary of misinformation, assuring them that any official statement from her would only come through her verified channels.

“I appreciate the support and solidarity of my people. Rest assured, I will continue to fight for what is right and just,” she said.

Following her suspension, there have been calls for her recall from the Senate. The push for her removal intensified after a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements.

Additionally, Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and has taken her case to local and international media, as well as the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving a petition seeking to initiate her recall process as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
