HOW TO MAKE A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION

While watching the movie suits, Harvey was coaching Mike about how his carriage wasn’t really portraying him in a great way, especially in the first staged court case and he was losing to another intern, so he ended the teaching with a statement, “First Impressions last”

This is different from the usual first impression is usually the last impression, or you would never get a second chance to make a first impression.

But the truth is that most times, people have already gotten an impression of you before you even speak.

They might have heard of you from someone’s else experience and for some reason, let’s hope that the person is a great fan else the first impression might not even allow the person to hear you speak.

Imagine hearing about David from the lips of Saul, imagine hearing about Saul from the lips of Stephen’s relative or hearing about Peter from the testimony of the servant she lied to.

So in a way, our first impressions are littered all over our lives, the kind of words that you’ve told others, the way you have acted.

But I’ve always said first impression matters’ but then how can one make a first impression, The first impression of anything leaves a lasting imprint.

Let me tell you all a story, well because you all know I’m the best storyseller, when I was in high school, I was taught to calculate without using calculators, like we were allowed to use calculators but the brains that were in class with me would not even allow you to switch on your calculator, I mean I was one of the best students then but I was late with the answers.

I mean imagine a teacher calculating Maths and asking us 59X234 and people are supplying answers within a minute, That fast.

So I had to go study the basics of multiplication which was found at the back of every exercise then.

The multiples of 2 all the way to 12 at least till their twelfth orders…

So one time I went to have lessons with some students from another school and the teacher asked 34X34 and ladies and gentlemen, we were waiting for this children to press calculator, the worst part is that even with the calculator, they didn’t get the right answer.

Lessons there really felt bored. I felt like if I kept answering all the questions, these students would tag me a nerd or something so I just had to flow with their frequency, I only answered questions when I was sure none of them could attempt it. But even with this attitude, I made a first impression on them so whenever the teacher would ask a question that was hard for them, they all turned to my direction to save them 😒.

Sometimes I did, other times, I would not answer so that the whole class would learn from the teacher himself, the whole class including myself.

What most people don’t know is that the reason why you were invited for an interview is that you have already made a great impression, but how can you make a good impression when you don’t even know how to create an optimised CV let alone learn.

But here are a few tips to make a great first impression.

1. Show Empathy. We gain attention when we show people our soft and humane side.

People want to relate with a human being not a robot, most of my early memories that I can remember were memories that were so emotional, either someone made me so happy, so angry or so sad.

People get a great impression about is when they see the good side of us, most of our great friends and best friends actually became friends with us when they helped us out with an issue or they comforted us or even irked us.

2. Create reciprocity: never be scared to give value for free, I remember my first CDS meeting while I was serving, I remember giving my opinion about certain issues that was raised and in the second meeting, I was elected the new Secretary, yea

You can create a good first impression by offering value and great strategies or suggestions. Then people place value with your face on it. You could be more valuable but if you’re silent, you won’t be noticed, you would make an impression but it won’t be the first. But please know when to bring value and when to keep it with you.

3. Have Testimonials: The reason why network marketing works very well is because people believe the words of other people close to them when it comes to trying out a product, this is why most people check reviews first before installing any app or purchasing a product.

Most people would open up to you when you have been introduced by someone familiar to them or close to them, it makes them comfortable around you, this is why influencer marketing also works more on the fans of the influencer or at those who admire that influencer.

4: Appearance: appearance really matters especially when it’s a physical meeting, people would addressed you how you are dressed, one time in the bible, the daughter in-law of Judah wanted to sleep with him, so she dressed as a harlot and she was addressed as such,

People would first address your dressing before they even know you’re smart, they might not tell you about it but before speaking with you, your accessories and dressing has been assessed.

This could even be seen in your accessories, there are ladies who access men by what they wear, the quality of his watch or shoes.

Words: what are you saying.
Some people would judge you by the words that come out of your mouth well, even God will but humans mainly.

Your Grammar matters and if it is that well articulated, and garnished with a nice accent, you’re just not ready for business.

Most times it has nothing to do with the accent but the way you speak your words, the tone and manner you say the things you say

Cheers to making a great first impression
